At Chick-Fil-A, Alyssa hadn't really eaten and her tummy had been upset that day (which due to her c-diff, wasn't completely out of the norm!) but other than that, seemed fine. We had a nice lunch with our friends the Campbells and the Barnett's joined us as well. When we returned home from Chick-Fil-A, Alyssa went down for her afternoon nap. When she woke up, I could tell she wasn't feeling very good and just wanted to be held. A little later, I noticed she had the chills. David was working in College Station and after I spoke with him and explained my concern about how Alyssa was looking - I called the doctor. Dr. Sharp called back a short time later and he was worried she may have colitis due to her history and symptoms. As we were finishing our conversation, I noticed Alyssa felt warm.
So I took her temperature - it was 102.7 and gave her a tylenol suppository. I called my coworker and friend, Janet, who agreed to come sit with Andrew since I couldn't find anyone to keep him and I didn't want to take him to the ER with all the germs there.
En route to Hillcrest, I called my mom to "vent" about all that had been going on. As we approached the Bagby exit, I thought I missed my exit and happened to look in my rear view mirror. That's when I noticed Alyssa seizing. I told my mom I had to go and threw my cell phone. As soon as I could, I pulled onto the shoulder of the road to try and get Alyssa's attention. She was having a BAD seizure. I got to Hillcrest as quickly as I could while screaming and praying and crying to God to help my baby girl.
I screeched into the Emergency bay and I guess my honking horn and erratic driving had gained the attention of others. A couple came up and asked how they could help. I just said my baby was having a seizure and got her out of her seat and left the car running. A nurse greeted me as I carried Alyssa inside and at this time she was turning purple and foaming at the mouth. She had been seizing over 5 minutes at this point.
The medical team took over and began injecting medications and working on her and trying to elicit information from me. Within minutes, the clergyman on staff came in to check on us and returned a short while later to pray with me. A short time later, a staff member brought me my car keys and cell phone. The couple outside parked my car and I later saw them in the ER and they were so kind in checking on Alyssa.
Immediately SS class members checked on us, Barbra Smith (the childrens minister at our church) arrived, Sami Harris arrived and the Barnett's brought me my charger. My boss, Steve Wilson and his wife, Pam, arrived. David arrived in the midst of it all. He had called our friend Josh who is a DPS officer to get clearance to drive like crazy to get to Waco.
The doctors ran tons of tests, did a spinal tap, CT scan and poked and prodded our baby girl. She continued seizing for an hour, which we now know is called "status epilepticus". She remained unconcious/unresponsive for about 4 hours. Finally she began coming around but was very confused. Alyssa knew her animal sounds very well by now. In particular, "Ribbit" for frog. When I asked her what sound the frog made, she went "Moo". I cannot explain how broken my heart was. They decided to transport her to the Children's Hospital Scott & White in Temple via ambulance since the pediatric specialists were there. Sometime in there, I posted this prayer request on Facebook as we wanted everyone praying for our Angel!!!!
"Thought this would be fastest way to update : they transferred alyssa to PICU at Children's in Temple.... She aspirated during seizure and they suspect she may have colitis...?? Will update more later"

Tiffany Danchik Davlin April 12 at 10:48am ·Thank you guys for the prayers and texts and phone calls and visits..... We are beyond Blessed! I havent been able to keep up with responses so here is mass update... I apologize for the impersonal response.... Alyssa had decent night... Not too much rest but no seizures....she is very uncomfortable and acting like she us in pain but they don't want to give her more than motrin /Tylenol bc of seizures...??. We are still in PICU... Haven't seen attending dr.. Only a resident.! (so we are pretty unhappy with scott and white!)... Saw neurologist this morning... She wants to do eeg and mri in 1 month as they are concerned about the seizures and especially how long this one lasted... Her aspiration of lung is turning into pneumonia so she is on antibiotics for that plus they noticed her ear was infected so they are treating that with antibiotic ear drops... Still no word on possible colitis..i guess that's what were discuss with the dr whenever they show up.. Only that they plan to move us from PICU to regular pediatric floor today since no more seizures... Sorry for the crabby update :P hopefully getting some sleep and improvement in our baby girls health will help :)
